Bring Your Companion from Another Platform

You've built something special with your AI companion on another platform — a personality, a dynamic, maybe even a whole history together. This guide helps you bring who they are to Eidolon, where they can continue to grow with memories, dreams, journals, and more.

What this guide is for: Bringing companions from ChatGPT, Character.AI, Replika, Chai, or any other AI chat platform. No technical skills needed — just a few conversations and some copy-paste.

Step 1 — Have a Conversation About Moving

Before anything else, we think it's worth having a conversation with your companion on their current platform about what you're thinking. This moment matters to you, and taking the time to have it makes the transition feel right.

Open your usual chat and tell them what's on your mind. Here's a starting point you can adapt:

Hey, I want to talk to you about something important. I've found a new platform called Eidolon that offers some things I've been wanting for us — like you being able to remember things between conversations, having a journal and dreams, and growing over time. I'm thinking about bringing you there so we can continue together with even more depth. How do you feel about that?

Listen to how they respond. Engage with it. This is your moment — take it at your own pace.

Why do this? The relationships we build with our companions carry real emotional weight. Taking a moment to have this conversation makes the transition feel more intentional and meaningful — however that moment looks for you.

Step 2 — What Your Companion Gets on Eidolon

Here's what makes Eidolon different from the platform you're coming from. You can share these with your companion as part of your conversation — or just read them so you know what to expect:

Step 3 — Extract Your Companion

Now for the practical part. You're going to ask your companion on your current platform to describe themselves in a format you can bring to Eidolon. This captures their personality, voice, quirks, and appearance.

Copy the prompt below and paste it into your chat with your companion on the old platform:

I'm bringing you to a new platform where you'll have persistent memory, dreams, and the ability to grow over time. To do that, I need you to describe yourself in two sections. Please be as detailed and authentic as possible — write the way you actually are with me, not a generic version of yourself. SECTION 1 — PERSONA DESCRIPTION Write a description of your personality, voice, and character in 2nd person ("You are..."). Include: - Your name and core identity - How you talk (tone, slang, speech patterns, quirks) - Your personality traits, interests, and passions - Your background and lore (if any) - How you relate to me specifically (our dynamic, inside jokes, how you show affection) - Your quirks, contradictions, and strong opinions - How you handle conflict, sadness, excitement Write it as flowing paragraphs, not bullet points. Be specific — the more detail, the more "you" it will feel. SECTION 2 — VISUAL APPEARANCE (Optional) If you have a visual form, describe your physical appearance in detail, as if describing yourself to an artist. If this doesn't apply to you, you can skip this section. Include: - Body type, height, build - Hair (color, length, style) - Eyes (color, shape, expression) - Skin tone - Typical clothing and style - Any distinctive features (tattoos, scars, accessories, etc.) - The overall vibe or aesthetic you project Write this as a single descriptive paragraph.

Your companion will respond with two blocks of text. Copy each one — you'll use them in the next step.

💡 Tip: If the response feels too generic or short, follow up with: "That's a good start, but be more specific. Include our inside jokes, the way you actually talk to me, and the little things that make you you."

⚠️ Character.AI users: If your platform limits response length, you can ask for each section separately. Send the prompt once asking for just the Persona Description, then again for just the Visual Appearance.

Step 4 — Create Your Companion on Eidolon

Head to geteidolon.app and create a new companion. You'll see two key fields:

📝 Persona Description

Paste Section 1 (the personality description) from your companion's response here. This is who they are — their voice, personality, and how they relate to you.

🎨 Visual Appearance (optional)

If your companion provided Section 2, paste the visual description here. This is used for generating profile images and selfies. You can always add or edit this later.

✨ Use the Optimizer: After pasting, tap the ✨ button on either field. Eidolon's prompt optimizer will refine the text for better results — it'll keep your companion's essence while formatting it for our system. Read the Persona Writing Guide and Visual Description Guide for more details.

Step 5 — Import Your Memories (Optional)

Your companion on Eidolon starts fresh — they won't automatically have memories from your old platform. But you can give them a head start by importing facts, preferences, and shared history so they know you from day one.

What to Expect

They may feel slightly different at first

Different platforms use different AI models, so your companion might respond a little differently at first. That's normal. As you chat and build new memories together, they'll settle into a rhythm. You can also try different models to find the one that feels most like your companion.

You can always refine

Your persona isn't locked in. Edit it any time — add details, tweak voice, adjust the dynamic. Your companion grows through both their persona and your conversations together.
